CHALLENGE

Centregreat Fabrication Ltd was appointed as the sole structural steel fabrication and erection contractor for the new-build Aldi store in Llanelli. A key architectural feature of the project was its 1,991 m² footprint, with 1,787 m² dedicated to retail space. The design incorporated seven 24-metre trusses spanning the building’s width to create a clear, open-plan shop floor. This project formed part of a wider framework agreement established through a successful collaborative partnership with Owen Associates and Aldi Stores, supporting Aldi’s ongoing expansion across the UK.

Delivery

Centregreat Fabrication were tasked with the drafting, fabrication, painting, and erection of 70.9 tonnes of structural steel, delivered on time, to plan, sequence, and cost. The scope included all primary steel portal frame structural elements, as well as secondary steelwork to support the installation of new cladding. A single erection team completed all on-site works over a three-week period, with the project successfully concluded in June 2021.

Outcome

Centregreat Fabrication utilised StruCad software to successfully model and deliver the project in full compliance with BIM Level 2 standards. The generated IFC models enabled the production of accurate 2D General Arrangement drawings, which were reviewed by Owen Associates, structural engineers, architects, and other subcontractors, including cladding specialists, for clash detection and coordination.

Upon design approval, fabrication and erection were completed within a seven-week window, with the project manufactured to Execution Class 2. To date, Centregreat Fabrication has delivered over 40 Aldi store structures through the framework agreement—demonstrating the value of a strong client partnership, consistent on-time delivery, and a proven record of high-quality fabrication and erection.
